Statement from Chairman Aguilar on the Virginia Supreme Court’s Ruling on Congressional Maps
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar released the following statement:
“Today, the Virginia Supreme Court rejected the will of the voters, plain and simple.
“Last month, millions of Virginians stood up to the Trump administration and made their voices heard at the ballot box.
“They made it clear they were not going to let Republicans rig the elections in their favor when they hadn’t earned their votes with their cruel, corrupt and costly policies. That’s why Democrats have worked to bring this decision to the voters themselves.
“While Republicans continue drawing new congressional maps in backrooms and in the dead of night, Democrats have continued to put this choice directly to the American people. Democrats aren’t afraid to conduct our business out in the open because we know the American people are smart and will see through Republicans’ lies.
“Democrats won’t stop fighting back. Republicans are on notice—we are still coming for their majority. All options are on the table.”
